Free 52 Week Savings Challenge Chart for 2027 (Every Week’s Date)

Free 52 week savings challenge chart for 2027: the date every week starts, each deposit, monthly totals and the running total to 1,378.

Quick answer: Here is a free 52 week savings challenge chart for 2027: start on Friday, January 1, 2027, and week 52 begins on Friday, December 24, 2027. You save $1 in week 1 and $1 more every week after that, for $1,378 in total. The money comes late: after 26 weeks, at the end of June, you’ll have $351. The Federal Reserve’s report on 2025, published in May 2026, found 63% of adults would cover a $400 surprise expense with cash or its equivalent, and this plan passes $400 in week 28.

Here’s the thing most pretty printables leave off. The 52 week savings challenge isn’t hard in January. It’s hard in October, when the weekly deposit is $40-something, the holiday ads have started, and you’re staring at a chart that still has 12 empty boxes.

So instead of one more “save $1,378!” pep talk, this is a free 2027 chart with the calendar actually filled in: the date every week starts, what each month costs, and where the plan usually wobbles. Plan it once now and the rest of the year is just ticking boxes.

Key takeaways

  • Week 1 starts Friday, January 1, 2027. Week 52 starts Friday, December 24, 2027.
  • 2027 has 53 Fridays, so December 31 is a spare week you can use to catch up.
  • The first half of the year adds up to $351. The second half asks for $1,027, and December alone is $202.

When does the 52 week savings challenge start in 2027?

The 52 week savings challenge for 2027 starts on Friday, January 1, 2027, because New Year’s Day falls on a Friday. Counting seven days at a time, week 52 begins on Friday, December 24, 2027. That gives you one week of breathing room at the end, since 2027 has 53 Fridays and December 31 is the extra one.

We’d treat that 53rd Friday as a built-in catch-up week. If you skip a deposit in a busy month, December 31 is your chance to square it before the year closes, instead of quietly letting the challenge end at “almost.”

What does the 2027 chart look like month by month?

A month-by-month chart shows what the 52 week savings challenge really asks of each 2027 paycheck. The table groups every week by the month it starts in, adds up that month’s deposits and shows your running total at the end of the month, starting from January 1, 2027.

January1–5$15$15

Why does the second half of 2027 feel so much harder?

The second half of the 52 week savings challenge is harder because the deposits keep climbing. Weeks 1 to 26 add up to $351, which ends in June 2027. Weeks 27 to 52 add up to $1,027. That means almost three quarters of the $1,378 lands between July and December, right when back-to-school and holiday costs show up.

December is the sharpest example. Weeks 49 to 52 start on December 3, 10, 17 and 24, and together they ask for $202 in the same month you’re buying gifts. Two ways around it: stash a little extra in the easy spring months so December is already covered, or set your gift budget early with a plan to save for Christmas alongside the challenge.

This is also where a chart on the fridge stops helping. Paper tells you what week it is. It can’t tell you that you’re, say, $46 behind with 9 Fridays left.

What if you start the challenge after January 1?

You can start the 52 week savings challenge on any day in 2027. The rule stays the same: week 1 is $1, and each new week starts seven days after the last. If you start on Monday, January 4, 2027, for example, week 52 begins on Monday, December 27, 2027. Start in spring and the last weeks simply run into 2028.

Paid every other week instead of weekly? Pair the weeks up and make one transfer per paycheck. Weeks 1 and 2 together are $3, weeks 25 and 26 together are $51, and weeks 51 and 52 together are $103. The total is still $1,378, you just make 26 transfers instead of 52, and the tracker still lets you tick each week on its own row.

When we built the free 52 week savings challenge tracker, we made the start date the only cell you change. You pick it from a calendar, and every one of the 52 dates moves with it. That was a deliberate choice: plenty of people start mid-month or mid-year, and recounting 52 dates by hand is exactly the kind of chore that makes a challenge quietly stop in February.

Tracking 52 Weeks Without Losing Count

A tracker that does the counting keeps the 52 week savings challenge going after the novelty wears off. The useful numbers are the ones a printable can’t give you: what you’ve actually saved, what’s left to $1,378, and how many weeks are done. Those update the moment you tick a box.

A few decisions we made while building ours, and why:

  • Missed weeks stay open. If you skip a week, you leave the box empty and tick it when you catch up. The totals only count weeks you’ve ticked, so the sheet never pretends you’re ahead.
  • Click to untick, not Delete. In testing we found that pressing Delete on a Google Sheets checkbox removes the box itself. The guide inside the sheet says to click again instead, and Ctrl+Z brings a deleted box back.
  • The free version stays simple. It runs the classic $1-a-week challenge. If you’d rather save $2, $5 or $10 more each week, or run it in reverse, the savings challenge tracker PRO version does that and holds 6 challenges in one sheet, including a no-spend calendar.

If you’ve never done the challenge before and want the basics first, our guide to the 52-week savings challenge covers how it works and where to keep the money. Comparing options? These savings challenge ideas line up the popular ones side by side.

Is $1,378 enough to matter in 2027?

Yes, $1,378 is enough to change how a surprise bill feels. In the Federal Reserve’s report on household finances in 2025, published May 13, 2026, 63% of adults said they would cover a $400 emergency expense with cash or its equivalent. On the 2027 schedule, your savings pass $400 in week 28, which starts on Friday, July 9, 2027.

That’s the part we like most about doing the challenge with real dates. “Someday” becomes “by mid-July.” And if you’re planning the whole year anyway, add the challenge as a savings line in the free 2027 budget planner so the weekly deposit has a home in your budget before January 1 arrives.
