The Transportation Electrification Principal at Rapphannock Electric Cooperative (REC) plays a crucial role in leading and overseeing the cooperative’s efforts in transitioning towards the electrification of the transportation sector. This professional is responsible for strategizing, executing, and managing various aspects of transportation electrification programs and initiatives.
Strategy Execution
Under the strategy execution pillar, the Transportation Electrification Principal is tasked with leading the development and implementation of transportation electrification solutions. This includes a focus on electric vehicles, charging infrastructure, and related technologies. The principal is also responsible for overseeing and growing REC’s existing residential charging programs and developing charging plans for residential, commercial, and fleet members.
In addition, collaboration with internal and external stakeholders is essential for identifying and pursuing business development opportunities. The Transportation Electrification Principal provides technical guidance and leadership to project teams, ensuring that projects are delivered on time and meet the highest quality standards. Research and analysis of electric transportation member solutions, including customer segmentation, technical feasibility, risk factors, business partners, regulatory strategy, and cost effectiveness, are also key responsibilities.
Outreach
The Transportation Electrification Principal plays a critical role in increasing the adoption of transportation electrification through outreach efforts. This includes advising active and potential site hosts on EVSE (Electric Vehicle Supply Equipment) equipment and installation requirements. Developing educational content for members on EV charging, including site readiness, EVSE hardware and software recommendations, rate design, and federal grants, is also an important responsibility.
Moreover, the principal is responsible for developing, implementing, and administering electric transportation programs, rates, education, and outreach for both residential and commercial members. Creating an outreach strategy focused on increasing awareness of the benefits of electric vehicles and conducting meetings with stakeholders are additional responsibilities. The Transportation Electrification Principal represents REC on various regional and national boards, coalitions, and associations and attends and presents at industry conferences and events.
Policy
The Transportation Electrification Principal is involved in the development of recommendations on policy and program design related to electrification. This includes electric transportation, beneficial electrification, and the electrification of buildings and industrial equipment. Working closely with various departments, such as marketing, regulatory, member services, finance and accounting, communications and public relations, and key account departments, is essential for recruiting members into REC’s electrification programs.
The principal is also responsible for monitoring and tracking local, state, and federal policies, incentives, and forecasted purchases of electric transportation infrastructure, vehicles, and other electrified equipment. Staying updated on federal and state policies, legislation, and grants related to transportation electrification is crucial for providing informed recommendations and insights.
Project Management
Project management is a key responsibility for the Transportation Electrification Principal. This includes activities such as vendor selection, management, and compliance. The principal oversees the selection of vendors, manages vendor networks, and monitors vendors’ contract performance and compliance.
